R. T. Erdogan: “We want a navy to dominate the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean”

Emphasis on development of naval armament programs will give the new Turkish government of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who in a speech at a recent naval conference in Ankara said that “We want a navy to dominate the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean, and also stand before the Russian Black Sea Fleet. “This conclusion is apparent from the appointment of Ismet Yilmaz in place of the Minister of Defence of the country, because that minister is an expert on maritime policy, as he holds two university degrees in this subject, and for a time was deputy minister of Shipping.

Sources report from Turkey, the successful manager of the Undersecretary for Defence Industry (SSM)  Murad Bayar will remain in place although some executives of SSM will be replaced.

Additionally, the new minister is going to change some of the regulations of procurements, but he will not change the armament policy of the Erdogan government. The new minister, like the Prime Minister himself, has stated clearly, that he by all means supports the local / national defense industries and he wants to increase the proportion of Turkish Armed Forces procurements that will be covered by the Turkish defence industry.
