NATO has restricted access to Albania’s military information network, especially information related to nuclear energy.
The decision was taken recently by the headquarters of the Alliance and sent to the Albanian government, at the classified information service and the Ministry of Defence.
The move comes after an alarm issued last year, following investigations conducted by NATO in the leakage of confidential information after an incident occurring in connection with lost laptops from embassies of NATO member countries.
The surveys revealed that people who had access to confidential documents and information and they were related to NATO war operations, shared information to Arabs, Russians and Serbs.
NATO put on alert. Rasmussen arrived in Tirana and asked an explanation from Prime Minister Sali Berisha. Nothing was publicly announced, although the leakage of information was considered as a big scandal. The NATO research has identified some names of MP’s who had entered the system and accessed the information.
The information reported some significant effects on the ‘Eastern Front’ and terrorist operations. NATO, however, failed to disclose the people (Albanians, that is) who participated in the release and delivery of information. But concluded that Albania is a risk in maintaining confidential information.
From today, no person – even the Prime Minister, will not be allowed to verify information on nuclear energy, operations defined as highly confidential and other data.
