Fule Warns Turkey Against Use of Military Force Due to Cyprus’ Drilling

EU Commissioner for Enlargement Stefan Fule has stressed that the Republic of Cyprus – like all EU member states – has the right to conclude bilateral agreements for drilling in its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

Speaking Wednesday at a press conference, the EU Commissioner warned against threats or the use of military force which contradict the spirit of peaceful resolution of disputes. The EU Commissioner was referring to Turkey, which following a decision by Nicosia to begin natural gas and oil exploration in its EEZ, has deployed warships in the Eastern Mediterranean and has signed an illegal agreement with the Turkish Cypriot regime in occupied Cyprus to delineate what it calls continental shelf.

Replying to questions, the Commissioner recalled that the government of the Republic of Cyprus began some weeks ago drilling for hydrocarbon reserves in its EEZ, stressing the sovereign rights of all EU Member States to enter into bilateral agreements in accordance with the EU acquis and international law. He underscored that there is no room for threats, sources of tension or actions, which contradict the spirit of peaceful resolution of disputes, adding “there is no room for threats to use military force”.

Why should the Turks care what this moron has to say?

    • john

Quite right, why should Turkey care about what anyone says. Why should Turkey care about international law, human rights and war crimes, Turkey can do whatever it wants right? Don’t think so!

If the EU was so worried about international law, most EU countries would have been taken to the international war crimes court for what was done in Iraqi’s with over 1 million civilians killed. Not to mention rendition flights from many EU countries including the UK to places all around the world for those people to be tortured. Thats the problems you see John, one rule for you another rule for the rest. Quite honestly, what is happening in Libya is a war crime too. Which international law will take the British and French PM to court? Hypocrites!!

pls tell me John, what do you think of these Greek war crimes?

Well what the US has done in Iraq is a crime. Everybody sees that and this why the US has lost its moral grip on the world opinion.

What happened in Libya is a different thing. Gaddafi was actually the one who oppressed people and violated human rights and it was about time someone do something about it.

The Libyans themselves probably think of the French and British PM as some people who helped them.

As for the documentary is a pure propaganda based on shitty facts. Actually the whole story is based on the report of a well known leftist reporter whose articles and work is always against Greece. Recently his NGO has been revealed to have received undeclared secret funds, by guess who, Soros the well known supporter of FYROM’s propaganda .

Besides that, of course the Greek people, (like the Russians and many others) sympathized the Serbians on that war just like muslims sympathized the Bosnian muslims. So what?

And probably a few Greeks as individuals working as mercenaries went to fight there, just like many muslims did for the other side. So what?

And they say that allegedly some of them participated in Srebreninja! Well the intenational court is not closed. If there were any proof of such act they would have been prosecuted.

And what if a couple of Greeks, as individuals offered some help to the Serbian leadership? I said the court is still open. If any crime was committed here it is. Playing chess is not a crime by the way.

On the other hand it is well known that the Greek government supported the allied operations in Bosnia and later in Serbia and condemned all war crimes from either side, even later putting pressure on the new Serbian leadership to capture and deliver the bad guys to the international court.

And as for the war crimes this is the opinion of the Greek people as well. All of us condemn them. We Greek have had enough of war crimes on our back, we count many victims and we despise anything similar.

Anyway, I did not see the shitty reporter asking people on the street about the war crimes. She was obviously trying to ‘link’ the sympathy of Greeks to the Serbs with their support to war crimes (!) like if all Serbs were responsible for the crimes. What the reporter implied, was actually Hitler’s way of view, condemning a whole nation for the acts of a few. Pure propaganda and worst case journalism ever…

It’s good to hear / but if turkey moves , against Cyprus / nobody will help us / i fear we may have opened a PANDORAS BOX of troubles ??

More enlargement of Europe and the worser it gets. EU should expulse Greece and South Cyprus off the EU to avoid embarassement and economical disaster! I advise Fule to get also Israel to EU :) It would be a nice act!
