Israeli fighter jets over Cyprus airspace

Defence Minister Dimitris Eliadis neither confirmed nor denied Turkish-Cypriot press reports regarding the sighting of Israeli fighter jets over Cypriot airspace, saying that if there were Israeli military exercises over Nicosia’s FIR, then all permissions and relevant consultations must have been granted.

Speaking to conscripts at the KEN Larnaca boot camp, Eliadis said that such military exercises would be allowed in cooperation with different countries, always within the boundaries of international law and the sovereign rights of the Republic of Cyprus.

Israeli fighter jets were seen flying over Nicosia between 10am and 2pm on Juny 8.
